International conference Multiple Jewries? New Perspectives on the History of Jews in the Habsburg Empire from the 18th Century to 1918

Dr. Branko Ostajmer participated on international conference Multiple Jewries? New Perspectives on the History of Jews in the Habsburg Empire from the 18th Century to 1918, held at University in Vienna on 5.-6. November 2014. In his paper Theodor Herzl and Hugo Spitzer: Comparative Biographies he analysed similarities in views and biographies of Theodor Herzl and lawyer from Osijek Hugo Spitzer, founder of political Zionism in Croatia. The origins of these similarities were found, among other things, in their study on Law Faculty in Vienna. Through this example the importance of Viennese university on intellectual growth of Croatian Jews was analysed.
