Databases publicly accessible
One of the objectives of the project “From Proto-Modernisation to Modernisation of Croatia’s School System” is setting up two databases on history of Schooling:
- The database on Croatian students at higher schools in the Habsburg Monarchy
- The database on teachers and professors in Croatia-Slavonia
The search of the databases is publicly accessible as of May 1st, 2016. The databases include biographical data, data on education and professional careers and aim at giving answers to the following and similar questions:
- To what extent did the established higher education system in the Monarchy have influence in Croatia?
- Was study abroad an important factor and medium of intellectual transfer in Central and South-East Europe?
- To what extent can such study be interpreted as an important factor for making a successful career and climbing up the social ladder?
- To what degree did teachers and professors influence the acceptance of specific educational modalities?
There is a possibility for extended search for researchers of the history of education and scholars. Please contact us on histedu.croatia(et)gmail.com
The data entry is continuous. More information on the sources and planned data entry is available here.
